VIOLENT EARTHQUAKES
ISLAND ROCKED
United Press Assn. —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. PBYMOUTH (Montserrat. British West Indies), Nov. 11. Heavy property damage was caused by earthquakes which rocked the island over 32 miles of its surface oil Sunday afternoon and through the night.
No one was injured but homes and other buildings were either damaged or wrecked outright. Plymouth’s water supply was cut off by tlie breaking of the- main pipeline and telephone' services were disrupted. Downtown Plymouth, where the quakes were heaviest, was almost deserted at the time. The churches were emptied before St. Peter’s and the Roman. Catholic structure were pa rt ia 11 y destroyed.
The ’quakes did not take the island by surprise, for during the last fortnight there had been preliminary rumblings. There are 13,000 inhabitants on the island.
