BAD LUCK DOGGED HIM.
MAORI LAD’S ESCAPE
judging by tile story told in the Masterton Juvenile Court ol liis adventures a certain amount of illluck appears to have dogged a Maori lad who escaped from YVeraroa training farm. On making his escape he took a lady’s bicycle and cycled from Devin to Wellington where he discarded the, machine. At night he broke intj a truck at the Wellington railway station, but while he was helping himself to some of the goods stored in the truck members of the railway staff came along and pulled a heavy tarpaulin over the truck. That was mishap No. 1. The second occurred when the truck was coupled to a train bound for the Wairarapa. The third took place at the Masterton station on the following morning, when the truck was uncovered and the lad was found asleep, and the fourth was when he was handed oyer to the police. When he appeared iin Court he was committed to the Borstal Institution at Invercargill for a period not ing three years.
