BOXING NOTES.

(By “Straight Left.”) Word has just come to hand from Mr P. ±l. Dunoghue, Aliramar, that most of his boys wilt be engaged at Stratford on Saturday, -J une 22iid, so it will be necessary for the local club to find another date, probably the following 'week, June 29th. Tommy Arbuthnot, one of \Yellington’s leading welters, has been selected by Air Donoghue to meet Jim Davies; for Moreoek and Richards he has two boys, Cording and Canute, 9st olbs and 9st 71bs respectively; for Alaurice Spring he has a corking middleweight in Jones, a Wellington boxer of some repute The .scraps between Arbuthnot and Jim Davies, and Maurice Spring an d Jones should be two of the very best contests ever seen in this district. Alaurice Kershaw has informed me that he is (ready and willing tor a conflict. Maurice is now in the (lose vicinity of 9st. He is a dandy little fighter, fast, aggressive and clever, and always puts up a good scrap. We shall find an opponent for .Manrice. Ted Oxley has a number of boys in training, two or three or -whom are showing decided promise interest in boxing seems to be reviving rapidly, and the approaching (tournament should be a big success. .Midget Wolgast, flyweight champion ■of the world, has been knocked cold by a woman. It happened at .J uarez, Mexico. Midget was making amorous advances to a, pretty, darkeyed senorita. The boxer's loving overtures were resented. Midget persisted. The senorita. becoming annoyed, took off her shoe and hit him =» terrific clout on the head with the heel. When Wolgast recovered conseriousness lie was removed to gaol after scrapping with the constable who arrested him. A. big tournament is to be held at Mnsteirton to-mor-irow night—professional and amateur. Maurice Spring is scrapping. The local club will he represented by Messrs A. P. Jensen, P. Davies, J. D. Morn rieff and tbe writer of these notes. There is every likelihood of a professional bout being arranged between Ted Oxley and Tommy Carrig, of Masterton. Roth boys are agreeable. The bout may probably be held under the auspices of the local club. Present writer is of oninion that it would be a big draw. Can Ted stage a come-back? I think so.
