WAIRARAPA IDENTITY.

DATE MR. J. McGREGOR. Residents from every part of Wairarapa gathered in Mas teuton on Tuesday afternoon to pay homage to an outstanding pioneer settler of the district, the Tate Mr James McGregor, who died on Sunday afternoon in his ninety-first year. A service, at which there was a- large attendance, was first conducted at the homestead, “Balquhidder,” Upper Plain, Masterton, by the Rev. John Davie, assisted by the Rev. R. Miller, M.A., at the conclusion of which the cortege of cars, some two miles in length, left for the Masterton Cemetery, where the Revs. John Davie and R. Miller conducted an impressive grave-side commemoration service. During the course of bis address at the graveside, the Rev. John Davie referred to the late Mr McGregor as “our most illustrious citizen,” saying that he had been associated with the Wairarapa for 70 years, during 60 years of which period lie was' the most outstanding citizen in the district. Mr W. McGregor, a member of deceased’s family, married the youngest sister of Mr H. R. Wilton, of Mangamutu.
