e BEBBINGTON SHIELD. 1The first meeting of the Rugby Union’s management committee wks ,f held in the office of the secreiaiV 21 (Air S. K. Siddells) last night. Air a R. J. Smith presided. Also present; {] were Alessrs V. Parsons, W. McGill W. Humphrey, O. Stone, G. Gregory, H. Baniels, W. J. Henderson and O. Wilton. Air Smith opened the meeting by congratulating members on being g elected at the last annual meeting and said that as there had not been j many changes evidently the people were satisfied with the way the Union’s affairs were run. g The secretary said a meeting had not been called before owing to the Easter holidays. Mr Smith said the secretary had telephoned him about this but as g there had been no business apart from the drawing of fixtures, which 3 the local men could do, he had j thought it best to leave the meeting until after the holidays. j Air O. Stone said it would have , been better to have held a meeting 5 which could have been reported in j the press, as he had heard a lot oi comment from the public and the players. j Air Smith explained that it was ( hardly fair to expect the members L who had to come from a distance to attend just to draw up the fixtures. Air Henderson pointed out that there were always the transfers to . do. Air Parsons moved that the action of the secretary be endorsed. The trouble was due, he said, to the Easter holidays. This was seconded by Air McGill and carried. BEBBINGTON SHIELB. The Banuevirke Sub-Union secretary wrote as follows: “I am directed to lodge a formal challenge for the Bebbington Shield and will be pleased to hear from your Union as to tentative dates. “Our juniors, who are due at your end, would be available to play the curtain-raiser if so desired.” As a challenge was already in from Rangitikei. which w-ould have to be played first, the following dates were suggested: Rangitikei, before June 26th ; Bannevirke, July 24th. It was decided to suggest to the Alanawatu Union that they meet Bush on either the 19th of June or the lOth of July. The Akitio Sub-Union wrote suggesting they play Bush on the 22ncl of May. It was decided to fix the match for 29th of Alay. INBIAN HOCKEY VISIT. It was also decided to suspend all Rugby matches on the 22nd of Alay, the day the Indian hockey team plays Bush at Eketahuna. The secretary was instruct'd to write re a trial game with Hawke's Bay. LATE STARTING. The Ballance Eootball Cl ub wrote complaining about the Eketahuna Old Boys as follows ■ “The Ballance Eootbaxi Club respectfully desires to call your attention to the fact that the Eketahuna Old JJoys team did not tate the field against Ballance to-day unHi 2.45 p.m. This match was scheduled to start at 2 p.m. sharp. The BaDance team was ready to play at 2 p.m. This caused inconvenience to those who were responsible lor entertaining the . teams after the match and no doubt affected the amount collected from onlookers on the grounds The Old Boys team gave no explanation of their late arrival.”

Air Henderson said this happened because the boys did not finish work until 12 o'clock and then the bus was late. The team had got there as ** soon as it could. !' Mr c - Wilton said it had been ” very awkward for ikiliauce as manv v e n£ lay ? I ‘ S had 10 off later to * milk. I lie Eketahuna team had uro need at 2.30 and t-fken 20 minutes o to change. ’ , . Smith said the rule regarding the time of starting should be rigid- - iy enforced. If a team was late the ’ te ain on time would get the game. - ar Wilton spoke in support of the chairman. People would nut E go to matches if the games did r the advertised time. - Hie Union should enforce this rule. Air Parsons agreed but said it - would be unfair if a team was de- ‘ laved by a break-down. The game • should be given to the team on time i on condition that the other team was not delayed by accident. Air Smith proposed that the rule be enforced in future and games must stairt at the advertised time Teams not ready will lose the game. Ihe Konini v. Hamua senioi game was set down to start at 2 *p m sharp next Saturday and the rule would be enforced strictly. TRANSFERS. The following transfers were granted: W. Hirst, from Hukanu, to Konini ; R.
