The Pahiatua Herald PUBLISHED EVERY EVENING WEDNESDAY, MAY 15, 1935. INDIAN HOCKEY TEAM.

Hockey' enthusiasts throughout the Bush district have a treat in store on Wednesday of next week when the celebrated All-India touring hockey team will visit- Eketahuna and engage the Bush representatives in a match. It is a proud distinction for

I the Bush district to be favoured with I a visit from such an illustrious comI bination and there is no> shadow of I doubt but that the public will show I fitting appreciation of the privilege I extended locally by packing the sideI lines next Wednesday. Right to their I back door is brought the team which I since the 1928 Olympic Games at I Amsterdam, has held the hockey I championship of the world. The preI sent touring side is also ranked high I in world class and in its few games I in Australia on the way out played I dazzling hockey. On or off the field I the visitors are a striking conibinaI tion. Same wear turbans, one has a flowing black beard, but all are very well educated and of a friendly, likeable disposition. Perhaps the most famous member of the side is the somewhat shy captain, Bhy'an Chand, I known the world over as “the human eel,” He was here nine years ago with the Indian Army team. The ages of the players range from 20 to 32 years, and in build they' are slight and wiry, and wonderfully fit. Their stick work would do credit to a professional juggler. Their tour opens at Banuevirke to-day and then in the ensuing week they will meet Hawke’s Bay' at Napier, Poverty' Bay at Gisborne, Wairoa at- Wairoa, and then the Bush, Union at Eketahuna on Wednesday. From there they go to Wanganui and then back to Otaki to play Horowheaua. All Rugby matches have been postponed locally next Wednesday, by courtesy of the Bush R.ugby Union, and this sporting action will be appreciated by hockey supporters and football enthusiasts

alike for an international visit falls to the lot of the, Busli district very i a rely in a lifetime and ecerv true lover of sport will welcome the opportunity of viewing the Indians in action at Eketahuna next week irrespective of w’hat their own particular branch of athletics may be.
