BERLIN, August 7. lo the throb of muffled drums, .the coffin of Bresident von Hindenburg was placed on a. gun-carriage drawn by six horses, and the 50-mile journey to Tannenl>erg began. The coffin was transferred to a motor hearse a mile and a half from Neudeck and thence was conducted by two infanitr.v detachments, two squadrons of cavalry and one batterv of artillery The cortege throughout the night passed between lines of Storm Troopers holding .flaming torches. Villagers stayed up everywhere to see the procession pass. Holienstein, where 20 years a"o 150,000 Germans under Hindenbu?g defeated the Russians, is the centre of feverish activity, 200,000 mourners gathering to witness the burial, including Press representatives, o-en-erals and others in full uniform diplomats, among whom is Sir Eric Phipps, representing his Majesty and members of the Government ? The body of Hindenburg was taken to the War Lords’ Tower in the Tannenherg Memorial, and will bo placed at 11 a.m. in the centre of the courtyard near a 40-foot cross. The aged General von Mackensen and the Crown Prince will, he present.
