DAILY A I,LO W A NCE“You say deceased smoked 30 cigarettes a day? ! am 84 years old, and I smoke from 15 to 20 cigars a day,” declared the coroner at West Derby, Mr S. Brighous, at an inquest. The coroner refused to accept a statement by Dr. Mcßelland,. a police surgeon, that .James Hampson, aged 68, had died from nicotine poisoning. “I started smoking at 8.30 a.m. to-day, and have been Smoking ever since/’ said Mr Brighouse. “You can come up and feel my pulse and put your stethoscope over my organs. L shall give a verdict of death from natural causes, because nicotine poisoning has not been proved. Dr. MicEellarid admitted that he smoked from 20 to 30 cigarettes a day.
