BLAZE AT MARTON.

Electric Telegraph— Association MARION’, April 6.

One of the oldest residences in Marton was destroyed' by fire last night. It was a five-roomed house situated in Oxford Street, owned by Mrs Ward, and occupied by her son, Mr J. Ward, a fireman, who at the time of the outbreak was on duty at the Civic Theatre. His wife was visiting friends. The fire had been raging for over half an hour when the alarm was given, and although the brigade was promptly on the scene, there was no chance of saving the building, which was razed to the ground. The house, which is over 50 years old, was covered by a small insurance policy, but Mr Ward had no cover on the contents.
