WOMEN AND SPORT CONTESTS.
PAPAL NEWSPAPER’S ATTACK. LONDON, November 15. The Osservatore Romano has made a vigorous attack upon sporting contests for women, reports the Vatican City correspondent of the London Daily Telegraph. Referring to articles and pictures of two such contests which have recently been held in. North Italy, the Papal organ says : These activities are monstrous. There can be Nothing more iDrovocat lve than the costumes which have now replaced the short skirt and primitive sweater ; Nothing more ungraceful in the young women’s attitude and muscularity ; Nothing more ridiculous than their congested faces, their hair blown in the wind, and their Medusa-like heads ; Nothing more grotesque than the contortions of their bodies; Nothing more ugly than their jumping, which the pliotograxihers snapped at the most indecent moment ; Nothing more pitiful than the cheers of imxmclent sjiectators.
