OBITUARY.
MRS. JOSEPH GARRARD. Mrs Joseph Garrard, whose death occurred at Wanganui in her 100th year, was born in Devonshire, and came- to New Zealand seventy-four years ago as The bride of the chief officer of the ship Airdale, which, under sail, took six months to make the journey out. She and her husband settle# in Nelson, and were there 48 years before Mr Garrard’s death. He was well known in musical circles. MISS E. A. MARSHALL. At “Tutu Totara” the death occurred of Miss Edith Annie Marshall, younger daughter of the late Major and Mrs Marshall, who were among the early settlers in the Rangitikei. MR. JOHN B. WEEDON. The death has occurred of Mr John Benjamin Weedon. licensee of the Rob Roy Hotel at Waihi, states a Press Association message. Mr Weedon. who was in liis 81st year, earned to New Zealand from London twelve years ago. In earlier life he was a great cricketer. MR. H. W. The death is reported of Mr Henry Watson Fowler, M.A., 2L writer of translations and essays and compiler of dictionaries. His publications include “The King’s English,” “Concise Oxford Dictionary,” “Pocket Oxford Dictionary,” “If Wishes Were Horses,” and others. MR. F. G MURDOCH. SYDNEY, December 28. The death has occurred of Mr Francis Gardin Murdoch, brother of Sir Keith Murdoch, aged 46 years, following an appendicitis operation. He was managing partner of Gibbs, Bright, and Co., co-Australian director of the Commonwealth-Dominion Line, and a director of the A.M.P. Society.
