A GREAT WINNER. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. NEW YORK, September 19. The racehorse Equipoise is to be retired after the Havre de Grace Handicap on September 30. As Winooka is not eligible for the Havre de Grace, there is ap~ jr ardently no chance that he and Equipoise will ever meet. Air Whitney, the owner, explains that Equipoise ran last Saturday with a slight crack on the wall of a front hoof. As this is a recurring injury, he has decided to abandon hopes of the horse becoming the world’s greatest money-winner. Since he first raced in April, 1930, Equipoise has Avon 320,970 dollars, the fourth highest in the world. AUSTRALIAN EVENTS. MISHAP TO AUTOPAY. SYDNEY, September 20. The Y ietoria Park races were held to-day, results being: Sir Herbert Maitland Stakes: Deputy Ruler, 7.3, 1 : Ammon Ra 9.0, 2; Break Up, 7.13, 3. Nine started, including Top Hole, Bold Roy, Topical, Silver Scorn and YY altzino Lily. YY'on comfortably by two and a half lengths, with a length between second and third, lime 1.251. The result was a complete surprise. Over a classical field Deputy Ruler received a ten-pound allowance. Silver Scorn again lacked dash. An inquiry into interferwith YY'altzing Lily was adjudged accidental. Flying Handicap, first division: Serabite, 7.3, 1; Curtius, 7.6, 2; Korokio, 8.0, 3. Seventeen started including Havaspot. YY'on bv half a length; a length. Time 1.13. Hying Handicap, second division: Y ista, 8.2 (R. Reed) 1; YY'ollnn, 7 9 (Knox) 2; Cottesmore, 8.0 (Ellis) 3 Eighteen started. Won bv a length and a half; a head. Time 1.13. Cottesmore, nearing the judge’s box, ran very wide and spoilt its chance of victorv.
The Mirror was unplaced in the Brush Hurdles, and Safari was unplaced m the first division of the Encourage Handicap. Autopay wrenched its hack and is an unlikely starter at the spring carnival.
