POPULAR FOOTBALL COACH.

PRESENTATION. TO MR B. WILSON. Members of the Athletic Third Grade football team, winners of tht Bush Rugby Union’s 1933 championship and seven-a-side tournament, held a very bright dance in the May. fair hall last evening in lioaiour of then- popular coach and selector, Mr Bert Wilson. There was a good attendance and Miss Mabel Hirst played spirited music. Mr Eric Hirst assisting with an extra. The M’s.C. were Messrs Ron Smith and J. Watson.

After an appetising supper had been handed round Mr Ron Smith in a few brief, but wejl-chosen words, indicated the object of the function—to honour their coach, Mr Wilson. Players and supporters alike would agree that Mr Wilson had been mainly responsible for the team’s success ill winning both the Championship and seyen-a-side cups. (Applause.) As a .slight appreciation of the work he had done for them during the past season Mr Smith asked the coach’s acceptance of a beautiful solid silver cigarette case, suitably engraved.

Musical honours were enthusiastically accorded the recipient Mr Wilson, who was warmly received on rising to reply, thanked Mr Smith for his kind words and all present for the splendid evening they had given him. The Athletic bovs he thanked particularly for the nice gift they had made him. He was afraid, however, that he had done nothing much for the bovs- only his best. At al\ times lie had had their helpful spirit of co-operation and this, and their own determination to win, had pulled them through to their proud position on the top of the championship ladder. The events of a. jollv evening were topped off a litt-le later when Mr Ron Smith said there was one omission he had made, the happy announcement of the engagement of Mr Bert Wilson to Miss Isabel Edmondson this event of recent happening was joyfully received hy the footballers and friends and after musioal honours had again been spontaneously given the bashful couple were bombarded with congratulations. Novelty dances included a lucky syot won by Mr Kelvin Lucas and Miss Z. Levy, and a Monte (allo by Afr E. Russell and Mi.ss Inez Thompson.
