CRASHED TO DEATH. A RUNAWAY" AEROPLANE. United Press Assn.—By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. RUGBY, September 16. Lady Clayton, who was an accomplished amateur pilot, died from injuries received at Brooklands aerodrome. She had started her engine and was climbing into the cockpit when the aeroplane moved forward. It was rapidly gathering speed when, she fell She was carried unconscious to the hospital, where she died. The machine turned turtle. PILOT AND TWO OTHERS KILLED. LONDON, September 16. The Brooklands aerodrome, where Lady Clay toil was killed yesterday, was the scene of another* disaster. A huge R.A.F. bomber, with passengers, endeavouring to land, failed to slow down and taxied into a ditch. The ’plane drove its back and the pilot was killed and two passengers injured. NINE PASSENGERS INJURED. LONDON, September 15. After riding five winners at Doncaster, Gordon Richards boarded a ten-sea ter Londoiit-bound a»eroplaixe, which crashed into a hedge while taking off. The pilot, Captain George Pennington, was killed. The trainer Fred Darling, Mrs Hartigan, and five well-known trainers were injured. Richards and another jockey, F. Lane, were slightly injured. The front ’of the machine was wrecked. CAR DRIVER IN RACE KILLED LONDON. September 17. The third tragedy at Brooklands with in two days occurred when a car driven by 51. Watson in a. 500-mile race, travelling at 90 miles an hour, somersaulted the flags. Watson was flung 20 yards, fractured bis skull and was burned in the blazing petrol He died in hospital. His wife witnessed the accident. The race was won by E. R. Hall at an average of 106.53 ni.p.h. C. E. Martin (92.24) was second, and C'vril Paul (88.87) third.
