HURRICANE SWEEPS CUBA.

HAVANA, September 2. The death-roll in Cuba from the tropical storm which swept parts of the island yesterday is mounting rapidly. As communications are being restored, it is now reported that more than 60 were killea. The West Indies are keeping watch on another disturbance, which is advancing from the Caribean. SIXTY-FOUR INJURED IN CAPITAL. HAVANA, September 2. Sixteen persons were injured in a tropical storm early last night. Property damage in the city was comparatively light. Communications have been interrupted with the northern coast and inland, and it is impossible to learn the extent of the damage there. The list of persons injured by the storm had grown to 64 late last night. There was one death, while two men caught looting were shot dead. BRITISH FREIGHTER DRIVEN ASHORE. MIAMI, September 1. The Florida Tropical Radia Company intercepted a wireless message from the British freighter Josephine Gray, stating that she was aground 100 miles east of Havana and asking for immediate assistance. She was driven aground by the storm which swept a section of Cuba. It is assumed that the crew is safe.
