The Canterbury Park races were held in fine weather yesterday, and there was a large attendance. Many horses with important spring engagements were engaged. Results are as follow: Canterbury Stakes, 6 furlongs: Chatham, 9.2 (Pike) 1 ; Tom Pinch, 8.13 (Janies) 2; Carefree, 8.9 (D. Munro) 3. ‘Ten started, .including Autopay, Dole and Golden Hair. Silver Scorn was scratched. Dole ran prominently, but Chatham won comfortably by two lengths, a similar distance between second and third. Autopay was sixth, and Golden Hair seventh. Time 1.12. Autopay made a bad showing, although, he was first away from the barrier and confounded his friends. Safari was seventh -in the Three-Year-Old Handicap. Korokio was not in the first eight m the Flying Handicap. Fairwav did not start in the September Handicap. Silver Scorn is showing slight -signs of lameness, but it is not considered serious. Peter Pan in a track gallop on Saturday pulled up soundly, according to his tiTiiner. C AULFIELD MEETING. MELBOURNE. September 3. The Caulfield races were held yesterday. Following are the principal results : Memsie Stakes, 9 furlongs: Waltzng Lilv, 9.2 (Daniels) 1 : Breakup, 7.2 (Preston) '2; Hall Mark, 8.2 iDemp.M Y) 3. Seven started. Finishing with a wonderful burst of speed, Waltzing Lily cut down Hall Mark In. the straight, and won running away by three lengths and a half from Breakup, who defeated Hall Mark by a head. Great Don was last. Time 1.53 L The defeat of Hall Mark was -totally unexpected in view of the recent form of that smart Heroic colt. The New Zealand horse Chief Mate was second in the second division of the Doona Trial, while Dazzling Raid was unplaced. Sir Simper was unplaced in the Warriston Handicap. R A CING AT HOME.
