The finest August for a century closed with the worst fire for .V) years, raging all night long at the Hull docks. The outbreak began in stacks of Russian timber at the Alexandra dock. All ships at the dockj had to be moved, while 1000 volnneers aided every available fireman to prevent spreading. Trains were used to rush timber from the danger zone. Flames 50 feet high were visible 30 miles away.
