WOMEN’S HOCKEY TOURNAMENT.
WINS FOP BUSH AND AKITIO. Electric Telegraph—Press Association ])ANNEYIRKE. August 23. Akitio, making their second entrain a Dominion tourney, achieved the distinction of defeating Auckland by 4 goals to 3 in the first game of the A section. This was a fast and wellcontested game, the half-time score being one goal to nil in favour of Auckland, but the second half went in favour of Akitio, who played against the sun. The scorers for Akitio were Misses O. Yeoman (3) and Berry, and for Auckland Miss E. Simmonds, Mrs C'armae and Miss Kossiter. The Canterbui v-W airafapa match was one-sided, the southerners being more experienced and showing better combination. B SECTION. In the B section Wellington started badly against Feilding in the opening match being one down at half-time. A rearrangement of the team in the second spell proved effective, 'however, and they had the upper hand throughout the second spell, running out winners by 4 goals to 1. The Otago-Ashburton match was a one-sided affair. Otago winning easily by 6 goals to nil. The Ruahine A v. Wanganui game was a bright contest, the former generally being superior. The half-time score was one goal to nil. C SECTION. In section C Marlborough, who performed creditably at Dunedin last year, suffered a reverse at the hands of Bush, who wound up three goals to the good. Marlborough bad the territorial advantage in the first spell, _ but were unable to score. Bush’s goalie was brilliant. Bush scored one goal in the first spell and two in the second spell, the scorers being Misses M. Bailev and Sprint (2). Eastern (present champions) had to do, their best to defeat Manawatu by 4 goals to 3 in a very, fast game. In the Taranaki-Wairarapa A match the former were much superior, the score being a very good indication of the respective merits of the teams. The winners set a torrid pace from the start and maintained it throughout. WET AT DANNEVTRKE.
