WOOL FOR JAPAN.
BUYING ORDERS WAIT. Electric Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, August 22. _ A statement that large "orders for New Zealand wool for deliver,- next year were in suspense till it is‘known whether New Zealand would impose discriminatory tariffs against Japanese. goods, was made to the Tariff Commission to-day by Mr A. R. Phillips, managing director of New Zealand Distributors, Ltd. He added that if those duties were imposed wool orders undoubtedly would he cancelled. Mr Phillips said that national honour was sudh a, strong factor in the life of Japan that in the event of discriminatory tariffs against Japanese goods the nation would boycott wool qnd use cotton, silk and rayon. He urged that the wise course- was to seek a friendly solution by peaceful negotiations. New Zealand should be guided by the trade negotiations between Br-tain and Japan.
