Many residents were startled shortly after 4 o’clock this morning by a heavy-like jolj;, followed by a slight shake. The direction appeared to be from east to west. The late Mr Angus Dron, of Short Road, Mangatainoka, was aged 66 years. He was. born at Hurunui (Canterbury), and as a, young man was employed in the Rangitikei district foi a short while. He subsequently removed to Pahiat.ua, where he was married. He became manager of an estate on the Torite-a Road for the late Mr E. T. Bartrop, which he occupied for many years. In 1921 the late Mr Dron took up dairy farming -at Whakaronga, near Palmerston N . Here he remained for a few years. He afterwards became, manager of a large sheep farming property on the Wanganui river for Mr Robert Russell. where his health broke down. He returned to Pahiatua four years ago, but had been in very indifferent health all the time. He finally took to his bed on Sunday, 13th ins't., and passed away on the following Friday night. During bis first residence in Pahiatua, the late Air Dron took a keen interest in the affairs of the district, and lie was a very enthusiastic and energetic worker on behalf ql the A. and P. Association. He also interested himself years ago in the Mangatainoka A.A. Society and otiiet fports bodies. He was regarded as a very competent judge of sheep and gave valuable assistance on the occasion of the ram fairs held here at one time. He is survived by his widow and one soil.
