RACE CLUB BALL.
INTEREST WIDESPREAD. Stewards of the Pahiatua Racing Club met last evening in the office of Alessrs Smith. AlcSherry and Rawson to further the arrangements for the Race Ball, to be held in the Drill Hall on Friday, September Bth. There were present Alessrs IT AreSherry (president). D. Kelly, S. V. Rodney, R. J. Smith, N. Bicknell, F. Britland, E. L. Harvey, C. Hodgins, C. Johnskie, P. J. Lloyd. F. Aloore, S T. Tinney, lan Taylor (one of the secretaries). The secretary (Air C. E. B. Irving) reported that over GOO invitations had been sent so far outside the district where the Ball had roused tire greatest interest. A public invitation, of course, had been issued through the press to local district residents whose enthusiasm had been spontaneous. The fact that no function of similar size had been, held here for some years (in a district once famous for its dances) indicated that the 1933 Race Ball had every prospect of being a brilliant gathering. Even though the admission charges had been reduced the Ball would be on an even more lavish scale than those of previous years. In the first place the best dance band procurable, the Alayfair Cabaret "Hig'hhatters Band (who played for Wellington’s Coster Ball and similar big functions) had been engaged and they were the peppiest combination that ever set the fun moving. The president reported that the stewards’ wives had organised for a most sumptuous supper of homemade trifles, savouries, and all such delicacies and the arrangements for supper would be in tho expert hands of Airs A. East. Various tasks in correction with the preparation of the hall, etc. and its elaborate decoration were allotted to the different stewards.
