Amongst the several charges laid against Win. Murn Macdonald, mechanic, aged 19. at Palmerston N.. at the Palmerston North Magistrate’s Court was that, on or about August 10, 1933. at Pahiatua. with intent to defraud by means of a certain false pretence, to wit, a valueless cheque for £4 ICG. drawn on the- Bank of New Zealand at Masterton, he did obtain from Arthur Albert Israel Trask goods to the value of 9s 6d and £4 Os 6d in money. Evidence was given by Arthur Trask, a barman at the Commercial HoteU Pahiatua. Ho stated that on August 10 last, when accused came into the bar he had a whisky and water, asked for half a bottle of “gin sling” and had another whisky and water. For payment accused handed over a cheque for £4 10s with an assurance that it was “all right.” Accused received £ 4 0s 6d eh a nge. Witn os s identified the cheque as the one produced. It had been returned marked “No account.” Accused, pleaded guilty to all charges, including the Union Bank sensational attempted robbery. case. He was committed to the Supreme Court at Wellington for sentence. He was also remanded to appear at Masterton on August 26 on the final charge.
