The third death connected with the sleepy sickness (lethargic encephalitis) outbreak occurred yesterday afternoon, a white child named Galloway expiring after being in a critical condition all the week. X o further cases a reieported, however, and the medical authorities deprecate the aiarmng rumours which have been spread throughout the country anct overseas. WELLINGTON COMPETITIONS. WELLINGTON, Last Night. With 3700 entries, believed to be a world’s record, for such festivals, the Wellington Competitions Society's 16th annual festival opened a two weeks’ session in the Town Hall on Saturday very auspiciously. A party of German students accompanied by an attache of the German Embassy placed a wreath bearing a swastika on the tomb of the Unknown Soldier in the Are lo Triomphe. Someone later snatched awnv the' swastika.
