SOME USES FOR WHEY
Whey is always of use in pigfeeding, hut it may also be used in the mixing of soft mashes for •hickens, instead of skim milk. It makes a splendid drink for poultry }f all kinds. Whey contains very little nutritive matter besides the milk sugar ind traces of salts and minerals, ret it has been found when fed to pigs to have effected a distinct increase in growth. Whey is commonly rated as of lalf the value of skim or separated milk, but when whey is used instead of milk, the meals must, of course, be much richer in protein >r albumen oids. Skim milk is a food complete in lesh-formers, excepting the butterat. The value of whey no doubt ies in its races of salts, minerals, etc-., more perhaps than in its carbohydrates in the form or milk ill gar. If a supply of whey is available t may be used to mix with the neals when the calves are about a nonth old. Whey may be used, too, vith a little oatmeal and fishmeal >orridge.
