]Mr W. H. Sykes, after a residence of 42 years in this district, left Eketahuna to make his permanent home at Tauranga. Mr Sykes qualified as a marine engineer at " Cammel Laird’s shipbuilding yards, Birkenhead, England. After many voyages as ship’s engineer, he settled at Levin for some time where he owned two iiaxmills and employed 60 men. He later came to Rongomai, accompanied by his wife and two daughters, and he farmed successfully at Putara. Miss Ella Sykes met with a fatal burning accident, and Mrs Sykes died in Eketahuna a few years ago. His second daughter is the Rev. Mother Eva Sykes, M.A., of the Remuera Convent, Auckland. Mr Sykes was the recipient of a presentation and good wishes prior to Holy Mass at the Sacred Heart Church, Eketahuna, on Sunday.
