A sum of £16,000 is being made available to give effect to this during the winter. Married men with two children or less liave received in some areas only 12s weekly, and men with the larger families have averaged scarcely £1 a W'eek. To meet the needs of areas which have not been placed on the revised scale, arrangements have been made by the Government for further expenditure up to £16,000 to cover the winter months. The Minister also said he was particularly gratified at the excellent progress that had been made in moving men into productive work. Under schemes 4A and 48, by which unemployed were- placed on farms as additional labour with assistance from the Unemployment Fund, there had been in all 27,974 placements. Of these, 10,151 were now*on farms, while many of the remainder had moved off the TTnemployment Fund into productive work.
