BALLANCE VALLEY
THE ANNUAL MEETING
The annual general meeting of the Ballance Valley Dairy Company was held in the factory building recently. Mr J. H. Windle, chairman of directors, presided over a moderate attendance of shareholders. In moving the adoption of the, report and balance-sheet (already published m °ur columns) Mr Windle stated that the past year had been a very anxious one for all connected with the dairy industi y ; no selling offers had been forthcoming and their consignments had met the lowest. prices that had prevailed for many years, but this was only in common with, all products, for the financial stringency was universal, affecting everybody, and all primary products. They had necessarily been conservative in making advances, and bad put a conservative value on the cheese that remained unsold. Latterly the market had improved and they were assured of an ultimate surplus, although a considerable portion was not yet shipped. The motion for adoption was seconded by Mr L. Holdaway and after discussion was carried unanimously. There was some discussion as to the advisability of installing electric power in the factory, but it was agreed to defer this for the present. The retiring directors, Messrs 1,. H. Holdaway and F. W. Long were re-elected. Mr L. D. Lovelock was re-elected auditor. On the motion of Mr A. G. Hansen the customary honorarium voted the directors. . Votes of thanks to the. chairman and staff concluded the business.
