Tho monthly meeting of the Pahiatua Women's Christian Temperance Union wa.s held on Thursday last in the PresbyteVian Schoolroom. The president (Mrs li. Paterson) was in the chair. The meeting opened with donations. Arrangements were made for th© “White Ribbon” to be placed in the Plunked- Rest Room and for the “Challenge’’ for the Band of Hope. Mrs J. D. Wilson. Library superintendent, proposed that a heme meeting be held at her house. She suggested that it’ take the torm of a biography evening. It was arranged that Mrs Wilson send to tho W.C.T.U. Dominion Library tor tour biographies. These will ho i-tudied by lour members who will give a. resume at the. home meeting. Members were asked to g;V« every assistance at tin Paddy s Market to be held on Marc!: loth to raise funds tor the Obstetrical Chair, and the secretary was instructed to circular ise those members who were not present regarding the matter. Miss Ross, in a short lectui ette. discussed tlie effect of alcohol on the digestion, showing that it lias a hardening effect on many foods, and lessens the muscular activity of the stoma oh. A vote of thank*, was passed to Mrs H. Paterson and to Mrs \. Willis for hospitality extended to Miss C. M. McLay durum her recent visit, and to Rev. A. K. Sutherland for the use ot bis ear Mrs Rennie and Mrs Fay were hostesses for the afternoon.
