TENNIS COMPETITION

MATCH AT HUKAaUI. Ideal weather conditions prevailed for the Makomako—Hukanui tennis match at Hukanui on Saturday last. Considerable interest was aroused locally in view of the fact that Makomako defeated Hukanui on the ahphalt court a week or so ago. The home team, however, emerged ,victors on Saturday last, by 17 sets to 7, games total being Hukanui 122, Makomako 73. Luncheon antf afternoon tea were provided by a subcommittee of ladies at the residence of Mr and Mrs C. Udy, on whose grass court the match was played. Detailed results are as follows, Makomako players being mentioned first in'each instance: Ladies’ singles: Miss Dav teat Mrs Foss, 6—5; Miss Dyer lost to Miss E. Searle, 4—6; Miss E. Sowry lost to Miss D. Lawrence, 3 —6; Miss R. Groves beat Miss JN. Palmer, 6—2; Miss Sontag beat Miss K. Smith, 6—3; Miss Garlick lost to Miss L. tidy, I—6. Ladies’ doubles: Misses Day rnd Dyer lost to Mrs Foss and Miss Searle, 2—6; Misses Sowry and Groves beat Misses Lawrence and Palmer, 6—3; Misses Garlick and Sontag beat Miss L. Udy and K.
