OVERSEER’S REPORT. The overseer (Mr A. M. TlieeiD reported as follows: Good weather has permitted fair progress to be made with all works. Pongaroa Eketaliuna main highway : Lagoon culvert filling will be in hand this week. Rakaunui crusher was closed down during the month and engine sent to AV'aione. Power grader has raked in metal. Two I'2inch pipe culverts are being laid and bends filled. Dropout at Dry Point was restored. A total of 78 cubic yards of repair metal was delivered. Pongaroa—AYeber main highway: A further 170 cubic yards of river shingle and 90 cubic yards 'of Akaroa metal was delivered for repairs. Cleaning up of flood damage is now practically complete. Pongaroa —Pahiatua main highway : A few yards of repair metal was delivered. Replacing of old wood culverts with pipes is in hand, two 24-inch, two 18-incli, and ten to twelve 12-inch being under way. Timber and ironwork for McLeod’s and Hennessey's bridges is being delivered on sites. Power grader raked metal. Rimu main highway: Power grader has raked in metal. A further 74 cubic .yards of crushed metal for repairs was delivered. One pipe culvert was laid. Pongaroa—Akiti 0 highway and road: Power grader trimmed metal to end. No. 2 grader again rounded up clay portion. Cutting back of slips is practically complete and gang can now he shifted on to regrading of Beach Hill slip. ConTractor for metalling has doubled his staff and plant as instructed and is making better progress. Metal on Beach Hill requires attention. Pipes have been driven and foundations excavated for Glenora (Wright’s) bridge and falsework is now being put in hand. Pile driving for protective breastwork is in hand. Glenora road: Pipes are to hand for replacing culverts under contract No. 297. Aletailing is now making good progress, approximately 20 chains being complete on Esdaile end.. As decking on Alangahewa bridge at Ora was breaking up under lorries, traffic planks have been laid. Akiti 0 River road: Material for Cadmus Ford bridge is being delivered. Black soil flat near Jones’ has been raised with clay. Contract No. 304 will be started towards end of this week. Aletailing of Jones’ Hill is in hand, approximately 10 chains being completed. A further 40 cubic yards of shingle was. delivered for repairs. Bins at AVaione end are being filled. AA T aihiAkitio road: Drop-out on hill was built up with rotten rock. AVaihi Valley road: Metalling contract on Wa imiro-Horoeka section is not yet in hand hut should be started this week. Repair metalling or Clemens’ Flat is practically complete, and it is expected to complete metalling near AVilcox’s this week with a dump truck. Lorry No. 3 put out 280 cubic yards of rotten rock on lower end of road and horse and dray have been started here to-day to do short carting. AATiipatakaka and Manuhara roads: No. 2 grader is tabling and trimming at present. Several small culverts require replacing with pipes. Manuhara quarry is being worked and further metalling will now be done. Kaituna road : Metalling contractor has made good progress with contract No. 286 a and is now engaged finishing contract No. 286. Papa burning is well in hand. Grader No. 2 trimmed road. Huia-iti road: Through cutting at AA ai d s was metalled, and low flat past B. Pimm’s,is now being done. Range road: Grader No. 2 has completed cleaning up this road. ■Cross road: Grader No. 2 trimmed up. A culvert was put in and road straightened on Lang’s hill and horse and dray are now being used to widen and straighten the road. Hnia road: Cutting back of slips has been pushed on with. Eighteen cubic yards of crushed metal was delivered on flood damage. AA'aihoki road: Considerable traffic is now using this road and surface requires smoothing. Arrangements are in hand for further metalling., AVaikereru road: Aletaliing contractor is making good progress, 18 chains being completed. Road is being widened at Spur Junction. AVai-o-AVr.ka road: Fillings have been restored at Twin aiicl Tunnel culverts and some further widening done. Spur road: No. 2 grader completed trimming up, making a good job. Restoration of flood damage at Spur extension has been delayed as men were utilised on other works. Sugar l>oaf road: An 18-inch pipe culvert was £!.it in and filling restored. Grader No. 2 completed rounding up and all slips have been removed. Some widening was done. Road is in good order. Alarainanga road: No. 2 grader rounded up throughout. General: Tram laying at Akaroa is in hand and ford is being made. Excavation for lower bin site was done.
