RETIRING MINISTER’S TRIBUTE Upon relinquishing the portfolio of railways, the Right Hon. J. G. Coates forwarded, the following letter to the general manager of railways, Mr H. H. Sterling: “I am giving up the portfolio of Minister of Railways, which I hav e held continuously since 1923. In doing so I should like to take the opportunity of expressing to you, who have been so long and intimately connected with the New Zealand railways, my own personal thanks for your untiring efforts, and, through you, to every member of the staff of the department, my appreciation of their loyal services to the country at large. Mor e than one tribute has been paid lately to the zealous and efficient manner in which all ranks of the railway service carry out their duties, and in adding my own tribute to the others, I wish to express my conviction. that the Railway Department will always continue to maintain its high traditions.”
