GOOD AND BAD
THE WEATHER AT XMAS. The weather for Christmas was not especially favourable. During the day, Xmas Eve boded fair to be fine and in the early afternoon the feminine section of the community donned their lightest summer raiment. The heat was terrific and at about four o'clock black clouds hanked up and shortly after there was, a great downpour of rain which lasted for over an hour. The Ngaturi district seems to have fared worst. Something akin to a cloudburst occurred in this locality, disrupting the telephone communication with Pahiatua and washing the metal off the roads. At about 6.30 o’clock the sky cleared again and Christmas Ev» was beautifully fine as a result of which the town was simply packed with people from town and country, the late shoppers availing themselves of a final opportunity t 0 purchase their holiday requirements. Christmas Day was sweltering hot, but Boxing Day dawned wet and continued So though the rain ceased somewhat during the evening.
