A DRAWN GAME

PAHIATUA v. WOOD A'll.l. E. The Pahiatua Cricket Club sent a team t 0 AVoodville on Saturday and a most interesting match ended in a draw. Winning the toss, Pahiatua batted first on a perfect wicket and the Opening pair were not separated till the tally was 66. David Groves, with 20 to his credit, hatted confidently and was unruffled by the many bowling changes. The visitors’ innings closed for 132, Grant, with hi s leg breaks, accounting for five wickets. Left with 133~t0 get in about an hour and three-quarters, AVoodville started disastrously. Bosley cleanbowled Ramsden with a full-toss and Brady skittled Sanson’s wickets. A good throw-in by Patchett resulted in Mail- being run out and Goodwin was brilliantly caught at point by Cormaek off a fast delivery from Brady. AVoodville thus had four wickets down for 21 but Skipper Miller and Grant then got together and defied the bowling, taking the score 11) 44 before Groves trapped Grant Ib.w. Charles carried on the good work and the scor e mounted to 78 when Charles was tempted and Harvey took a good catch on the leg boundary. In the next few ovei'S three comparatively easy catches were dropped which, if accepted, would very piohably have given Pahiatua the victory. The AVoodville captain hit out lustily and pasted Stephens for 18 off one over. But the next over was the last and stumps were drawn with the result undecided. Not a single bye went past the wicket-keeper, Lawton, through-i out the innings. The return game will he played on Saturday next, at AVoodville. Detailed scores ore as follow: PAHIATUA. D.
