SACRED COLLEGE

SECOND EDITION

QUESTION OF COMPOSITION NEW CARDINALS TO BE CREATED. United Press Assn —By Electric Telegraph—Copyright. ROME, December 21. Monday's Consistory raised the question of the composition of the Sacred College. Since Pius XI became Pope, thirty Cardinals have beefi created, of whom fifteen are Italian and fifteen non-Italian. Now there are seven vacancies, and there may be more before the spring, when the Poiitiff is expected to hold a new Consistory. Ireland is anxious to be represented. The choice rests between the Archbishops of Dublin ami Armagh. It is also recalled that Australia has been seventeen years without a Cardinal since Cardinal Moran’s death. After the splendid Catholic manifestatio at the Eucharistic Congress in Sydney, Australia considers that she is entitled to have a prince of the Church.

■South America, however, has only one Cardinal, and Argentina anil Chile specially are anxious. If the next Consistory gives Ireland, Australia and Argentina a Cardinal apieee. there is room at least for two Italians bringing the composition of th e Sacred College to thirty-two Italians and thirty-six non-Italians. THE POPE CONGRATULATED. ROAIE, December 21. The Pope has received congratulations on being fifty years in the priesthood.
