There was a flutter in society circles at the Savoy Church, when the fact that the New Zealand bride, Huia Sargood, instead of marrying as announced, her fiancee, Captain Valle Pope, of the Royal Artillery, who took out license a fortnight ago-, was married to-day to a New Zealander. Lieutenant lan Lawrence Mackillop. o? tile Royal Engineers. When interviewed, tile bride said: “The other one is off. I can marrying Mackillop,” who interposed “the other announcement was incorrect.”
11 is understood that Pope told the church authorities as late as Saturday that everything was in order, but on Monday Sargood told them she was marrying Mackillop. She was informed that under the circumstances that the old license was invalid, so she' paid 54js for a short notice special license. She is the grand-daugliter of the late Sir Frederick Sargood.—Australian Press Assn.
