GREAT DAAIACE BY SLIPS. It is estimated that damage to the ext ui, el £3OOO ha.- been done by slips and wash-outs caused by the heavy rains in the Akitio County. The engineer has proceeded to Wellington to interview the District Engineer and Alain Highways Board in order to seek relief for the county. The damage, we arc informed, has been almost unprcci dented. The engineer and his siaff have dom everything with the means at their disposal to get the roads open as soon as possible-, hut it has been a very trying experience for them and ike sell lers. Mr R. 15. Robertson. County chairman. its at present laid aside by ill-r.e.-,s.
Mr G. R. Sykes held very successful meetings at Puketoi and Pongainii, At the former settlement. All AV. E. Bumbry presided, and at l’onga.roa. the chairman was Air R . E. AA’oodd. In each instance the customary votes were carried by acclamation.
