NEW ZEALAND LEGISLATION

POISONING AT THE FOUNTAIN

The perservance of the British character and the influence of our traditional and political ideals have slowly brought uis to a deeper insight into questions of democracy, till to-day the British Commonwealth is becoming alive to the real nature of its task —the extension and consolidation of liberty. Any encroachment upon those ideals must he rigorously checked. The New Zealand political administration is part and parcel of the democratic system, which prevails in all parts of the Empire. That system now lies in danger in this Dominion, so much so that unless drastic exposure is immediately made, the damage may he irremedial.

Hitherto, Parliament has governed the people, but a- grave situation lias arisen which will mean that a handful of outsiders representing a minority coterie, will run the country in spite of the wishes of the people. The New Zealand Alliance acknowledges having pledged certain members of Parliament t () carry out the rejected prohibition policy of the Alliance, in direct opposition to th© ballot. During last session a majority of members supported the “demands” of the Alliance! This body recognises the fact that popular vote will never advocate prohibition. and so it attempts to thrust its fanaticism in the face of the people bv gaining the adherence of the people’s representatives 1 Legislation is thus being poisoned at the foil n ta in.

Away with “Super-Government!” Protect your own interests by voting against the prohibition menace and voting for Continuance. *
