Miss Davey, of Australia, was fourth. The time was 2min 54 4-ssec —a Tailteann record. It was a close and exciting race, inches separating the winners. (Miss K. Miller was third in this event). In the 400 metres for men, free style, Spence was first, Samson second. Bourne third and Lindsay fourth. Won easily. In the first round of the cruiserweight boxing Cleverly (New Zealand) easily defeated Melton (Wales). ULSTER OLYMPIAD. BELFAST, August 22. Despite rain there was an enthusiastic crowd at the Ulster Olympiad at which the Australians and Americans were guests. Whyte was again the hero of the day. Starting scratch in the mile handicap oil a sodden grass track he just failed to overhaul the leading pair of Irishmen, who had ninety and a hundred yards’ start respectivelv. Time 4.28. Watson was beaten by half a yard by Merner (America) in the 120 yards hurdles. Time 15 3-5. Winter won the high jump handucap, with sft 7ins plus eight inches handicap. He- also won the hop, step and jump from scratch with 44ft 2in. Watson, with a handicap of a foot, was third in the long jump with 19ft 7-Vins. The combined Australian-American team (Carlton, Merner, Watson and Gibson) won the 800 metres international i elay race by twenty yards from Irish Free State, with Ulster third.

The Australians had a most enjoyable day and returned to Dublin each carrying trophies.
