The yarding of fat cattle totalled 560, as compared with 605 at the Grand National sale, and 525 the week before. There was a fair proportion of prime steers, and on the other hand there were a number of big steers that lacked the finish. The bulk of the yarding consisted of cows and heifers. Outside consignments included an exceptionally good line of steers from the Hawke’s Bay, the tops of which were very prime, and the 44 head sold averaged £2O 11s. The "West Coast was well represented by a number of lines, and there was one consignment from South Canterbury. There was a good demand throughout the sale as butchers were short of supplies. There was a very small yarding of veal calves, the hulk being young calves, and the remainder yearlihg to 18-month sorts. High prices were obtained for all killable lots. Values were: Twelve to 18-month sorts, to £ll 8s 6d ; good vealers, £6 to £8 10s; medium vealers, £3 5s to £5 10s ; small calves. 20s to 40s.

A small yarding of store cattle was made up of cows of uncertain ages and a few bulls. There was a fair demand, especially for the better class of cows which made £4 to £6 6s; and others, £2 to £3 15s; and bulls sold at £5 11s to £8 13s 6d. A full yarding of dairy cows met with a good demand for better sorts. .Best second and third calvers, £9 to £l4 ; medium second and third calvers. £6 to £8 10s ; best lieifei’S. £7 to £lO 10s; others, £4 10s to £6 10s ; aged cows in profit, £3 to £3 10s. Porkers were in large supply, but the entry of bnconers was small. The market for porkers was weaker, while baconers sold at late rates. Values were: Choppers, £3 to £5 16s: light baconers, £3 7s to £4; heavy baconers, £4 10s to £4 19s fid (average price per lb 6d to 7d) ; light porkers. 35s to 45s ; heavy porkers. 50s to 58s 6d (average price per lb 6d to 7d).

A very large yarding of store pigs was made up. chiefly of small and medium stores. There was a decline all round on late rates, and toward the close it was difficult 'to make sales. Values were: "VVeaners, 11s to 14s; small stores, 15s to 225; medium stores, 23s to 28s ; large stores, to 345.
