Tlie various stages of the picture are set out as follows: Adore —The “World’s Sweetheart” in her antics and moods of elfin mischief. Smile —AVhen the little rebel of the “baby farm” “puts it over” on the harsh master. Roar — As “Spec” O’Donnell stops a blue berry pie with his freckled face. Approve—The screen’s most winning baby that Mary Bickford almost adopted. Pity—The wan tots penned in a semi-tropical wilderness stockade far from help. Shudder —AVhen a fierce mastiff trails ten truants through the quaking bogland. Gasp—At the alligators infesting the lagoons and snapping at .the runaway children. Thrill —At the race of the police patrol boat and the runaway speed boat laden with fugitive orphans. Cheer. —When “Mama Mollie” wins the unforgettable flight through the swamp—a sublime children’s Pilgrim’s Progress.” The second feature, “A Gentleman of Paris” fits Meniou like a glove. The story revolves about a rich Marquise who possesses a perfect valet; a young fiancee whom he lic/pes to marry, and many young ladies whom he should have married. The comedy for the most part explains his innumerable amours with Paiisian devotees. He strives to make them all happy and still avoids suspicion. Chief among them is the wife of th© valet. Here complications set in, with a .plan o‘ : revenge on the part of the valet. There are many twists and unusual turns before the fadeout, but it results in the inevitable happy ending. Tlie story is light, but it is deftly and cleverly unreeled with many sparkling touches.
