BASKETBALL

WAIRARAPA TOURNAMENT. The annual tournament under the auspices of the Wairarapa Basketball Association was held on the AVairarapa High School grounds on Saturday. About 360 girls took part in the tournament and some excellent play was witnessed, particularly in the senior and secondary B sections. The senior grade has developed considerably lately and this year several new teams 'cook the field. The following are the winners in the various grades: Senior, AVairarapa High School Old Girls A; secondary A, Wairarapa High School A; secondary B, Wairarapa High School B; primary A, Lansdowne; primary B. St. Bride’s.

The results of the games were: SENIOR. Pahiatua Convent Old Girls beat Martinborough, 5—2; Paliiatua Old Girls heat Wairarapa Pligh School Old Girls B, 2—l. Semi-finals: Paliiatua Convent Old Girls beat AA'esley A, B—7.8 —7. This was a very good game. Wesley A had a substantial lead most of the game until their captain and chief goal thrower had the misfortune to twist her knee. The result on time being a draw, the game was continued, Pahiatua securing the first goal. Wairarapa High School Old Gii'ls A beat Pahiatua Old Girls, 10 —o—a0 —a fairly easy win. , Final : Wairarapa High School Old Girls A heat Pahiatua Convent Old Girls, B—o. SECONDARY R.

First round : Pahiatua D.H.S. beat High School C, 2 —l. Second round: Wairarapa High School B heat Pahiatua D.H.S., 6—3. Final: High School B beat St. Matthew’s, 11—3. PRIMARY A. Central beat Pahiatua, 16 —1. PRIMARY B.

Pahiatua Convent beat Solway, Semi-finals: St. Bride’s heat Central, B—2; Pahiatua Convent beat Fernridge, 7 —l. Final: St. Bride’s beat Pahiatua Convent, ID—l. This game was more even than the score indicates, the goal end of the Pahiatua team lacking confidence. The combination of the St. Bride’s team was good ; Betty McKenzie put up a fine defence.
