The Pahiatua Herald PUBLISHED EVERY EVENING MONDAY, FEBRUARY 20, 1928. THE HORTICULTURAL SHOW.

There are various reasons why the public should make a particular point to-morrow of supporting, the annual show of the Horticultural and Industrial Association. In the first place, the season has been on extraordinary one, and consequently the drought has .had a serious effect on flowers and vegetables. Generally, an excellent display' is made in these sections, anddespite the adverse climatic conditions, a good display can still he made if residents will only rally to the Society’s aid. Even if they cannot exhibit in these classes, there is no reason why housewives cannot forward entries for the cookery section. This will probably be tlie strong feature of the Show, and the benches can be filled in an attractive manlier. The show is now a one-day affair, and it is up to all well-wishers of the Society to ise© that it is made a success, otherwise the enthusiasts may he faced with financial difficulty. 11 would he a great pity for such a useful institution to become imperilled because of a. dearth of entries.. SUMMER TIME PLEBISCITE. Mr T. K. Sidey lias been expressing himself in confident terms regarding the ti ial of the Summer Time' Act, but he is opposed to the proposal that a national plebiscite should ho taken at the time of the general election. He contends that the results of the Act are such that it. should ho made a permanent measure. He will discover, however that a very great number of the electors in both town and country are opposed to it. Mr Sidey reveals a. weakness when ho is not willing that a plebiscite should he taken. It i.s understood that <sev- < i al members of the House voted for the measure merely out of respect for M. Sidey’s persistency, and with the idea of giving the Act a trial, hut hv the time the .session conics round it will be made pretty plain to them that there is an earnest desire by the hulk of their constituents for a. permanent return to normal conditions.
