DEATH OE FORMER RESIDENT. The death occurred at Foxton this morning of. IVV P. W. Brown, a former well-knov n local settler, at the age of 64. Thy kite';Mr Brown, who was born in England, came to N.Z. 32 years ago, and left his ship at Nelson. He was employed there for some years by Mr H. Holdaway. After his marriage to Miss Jessop, of Wakefield, Nelson, the late Mr Brown removed to Masterton, where he was engaged in sawmilling and then tank construction on the Mns-terton-Woodvilie railway. He subsequently bought the farm at Ballanc© belonging to Mr T. Say well, at present occupied by Mr Frame, where he lived for five years. He afterwards bought the farm now occupied by Mr F. W. Long. The deceased gentleman left this district about 23 years ago, and bought a farm on the SliannonFoxton road. The deceased was a prominent member of the Salvation Army, and a keen oanclsman of that organisation. For some years be was a director of the Shannon Co-opera-tive Dairy Co., and .» lending citizen of Foxton, being greatly esteemed for 1 1 is uprightness of character, anti exemplary life. He leaves a widow, four daughters, and one son. Two if the daughters arc married. The eh—ast is matron of the Salvation Arm} Maternity Home at Gisborne. There are several grandchildren. The funeral will fake place on Thursday. Mr Fred Hill who is very we* I known in this and tho Woodville districts, i.s seriously ill in Hamilton and his family have been summoned. Mr L. Holdaway returned to day from a visit to Wellington.
