ASSAULT ON CHINAMAN. “It appears that he had been listening to the street propaganda of the White New Zealand League, which inflamed his mind.” said Senior-Sergeant Sander in the Magistrate’s Court, Wellington, when Basil Claude Pnley, a gold-miner, admitted having assaulted Wing Hing. Paley also pleaded guilty to having wilfully destroyed fruit w orth 17s 6d, the property of Hiug. The accused', said the senior-ser-geant, went up to Hing, who was outside his shop on Lnmbton Quay, and without provocation struck him with his fist.’ He then went into the shop, where a inelee followed, and fruit worth 17s 6d was damaged. Mr E. Pa ge, S.M., imposed a fine of £3 for assault, and of £2 for having wilfully damaged the fruit. Paley was also ordered to pay for the damage. Default was fixed at one month’s imprisonment.
