The Pahiatua Herald PUBLISHED EVERY EVENING THURSDAY, APRIL 7, 1927. THE RUGBY UNION.

The annual meeting of tlie Busli Rugby Union held this week disclosed r. very gratifying state of affairs, reflecting great credit on the officials. For the first time for a considerable period, the Union has by prudence and judicious management obtained a substantial credit balance. It was no uncommon thing in days gone by to be faced with a serious deficit. A pleasing feature of the meeting was the unanimous endorsement by the various delegates of the recommendation of the Hamua Football Club that tbe President (Mr R. J. Smith) should be re-elected to that position. Such a proposal, and one that was heartily supported, is perhaps unique in the history of Bush football. It was an excellent testimony to the confidence reposed in the management. The Union has taken a new lease of life, and its activities during the past few seasons have done much to put the game on a better footing. It will now be able to devote more attention to what is undoubtedly an urgent need—the acquirement of a central playing area. The present grounds are either unsuitable in wet weather or are too far removed for tho convenience of those who follow the game. There is no doubt that if the Union can formulate some practicable yet not extravagant scheme for the lease or purchase of a central football field, bandy to Pie town, fit for matches throughout tbe season, it will receive a good deal of support.
