FIRES

DWELLING AT BULLS. A fire at 1.30 last night destroyed a. dwelling at Bulls owned by G. Bending, of Auckland, and occupied by Albert Wilkins. The occupants had to make a hasty exit, saving nothing, The house and contents were covered by insurance. WELLINGTON BLAZE. Damage estimated at several thousands of pounds was caused by a fire which hi'oke out on Th© Terrace art the upper end of Abel Smith Street, Wellington. Two houses were totally destroyed, a third was 'burnt out, and a fourth was damaged by fire, smoke and water. The houses totally destroyed were: No 175 Abe! Smith Stieet, a 13-roomed, unoccupied house belonging to Air* A. Spiro, of Wellington. No. 178 in the same street, a seven-roomed house owned and occupied by Air A. C. Geddis. A six-roomed house at No 180 Abel Smith Street, owned and occupied by Air AV. Ambury, was burnt out and almost all the furniture was lest. One of the wails oif a four-roomed house, owned and occupied by Mr AV. AVearne, at No. 182 Abel Smith Street, was badly damaged, further loss being caused through smoke and water.

The four houses were situated alongside one another. Air Spiro’s house was on the hillside, almost at the ton of the flights of steps leading from upper Abel Smith Street to The Terrace. The other three residences were on the summit of the hill. The house and contents belonging to Air Geddis were insured. Air Ambury’s house was insured and the contents were covered by a policy for £IBO in the State office. The house belonging tc Air AV earne was insured for £6OO and the furniture for £2OO. RONGOTEA BUILDINGS. Two buildings, one the property of Air AV. Darragh, of Rotorua, and occupied by Airs Charles Donovan, and the other owned by Air F. Tees and occupied by Air H. Dukor, were totally destroyed by fire. Air Donovan Tost all his furniture and belongings and very little was saved out of Mr Duiker’s house.
