LADIES’ HOCKEY

THE BUSH ASSOCIATION ELECTION OF OFFICERS. The annual meeting of the Bush Ladies’ Hockey Association was held in Messrs Cliffe and Remington’s shop on Tuesday evening, when there were present: Mr J. B. darruthers (Eketahuna) in the chair, Mrs Bicknell (Koli-turi), Messrs F. Ward (Koli-turi), R. Farrow and Spring (Nireaha), R. Cayanagh, Bailey (Hamua), AV. A. Cittadini and Cliffe (Pahiatua). The annual report and balanceeheet were adopted BETTER FINANCE NEEDED. The chairman, in formally moving the adoption of the report, alluded to the past year’s activities of the union, stating that- though the financial side was in a healthy condition, there was still room for improvement, and lie emphasised that the clubs affiliated to the union should endeavour, to assist the latter in the matter of its. finances as it was to their mutual advantage. Unless the finances were considerably augmented, it meant that the union’s hands were tied when it came to the despatch of representative teams, or when visiting teams came to the Bush. NO FRICTION.

In speaking of the past season, he said it was pleasing to record the enthusiasm shown by all concerned, and it was indeed a pleasing feature that no friction whatever had arisen between clubs. The executive had not been called upon on one single occasion to consider a protest. Continuing, the speaker said a great wave of interest had been created in the southern end of the district, hockey matters being very active. Eketahuna had formed a club, and Rongomai were that night holding a meeting and were only sorry that they had not held it sooner, as they i would very much have liked to have ( attended the union’s annual meeting. Alfredton were also on the move, and it spoke well for the coming season. He earnestly appealed to all elifbs that during the season commencing -they do something of a concrete nature in stimulating th© enthusiasm among ‘their respective members. He urged upon them to feel that though they were club members they were members also of the union, and by being so, thev would still be one big happy family. In conclusion, be wished the incoming officers and executive, and all clubs, a very happy and successful season.

Cliffe: management committee, Messrs W. A. Cittadini, R; Cayanagh (Hamua), H. Lowe (Koli-turi), J. A. Walsh (Hastwell), A.' Evans (Eketahuna), president and secretary ; selectors, Messrs Ryan, Parrow, and Cliffe. ENERGETIC SECRETARY. The president thanked those present for the honour they had conferred upon him in electing him to the office of president for another year. He had wished to be relieved of the position on account of being connected with so. many things, but seeing it was the unanimous wish of all present, be would gladly carry on and help the union to the best of his ability. (Applause). He felt sure that the change of headquarters had been very beneficial to - the union. He expressed his. appreciation of the work Mr Cliffe had done for the union. He was a hard-work-ing secretary, hut he felt sure that the union were fortunate in having one who had the interests of the game so. much at heart, controlling the clerical work of the union. In the executive he had unbounded confidence, and the destiny of the union being placed in such hands, success was fully assured. A general discussion followed, and it was decided to forward the following recommendations to the incoming executive: (1) That the season open on Wednesday, May 4th. (2) That it be left in the executive’s hands, the nature of the commencement. (.3) Tli at nominations for competition close with the secretary on Wednesday, April 27th. (4) That affiliation fee be £1 Is per team, and such affiliation fee be forwarded to the secretary not later than one week after the season commences. (5) That it he a recommendation to the selectors to arrange A and B matches, for early selection oi rep. teams. (6) That should a match between Bush and Wairarapa he. played such match take place at Eketahuna. (7) That wherever possible, hockey in. schools receive assistance from the union to help the game along. (8) That the 'Secretary he instructed to write the New Zealand Hockey Association asking for the support of that body for school hockey. The thanks of the association are extended to all those who assisted during the past season; to Air R. Cavanagh. for the offer of his car for conveying the rep. teams to re-

presentative matches; and to the referees who controlled the games during the season. During the discussion, the delegates voiced themselves very forcibly in regard to the excessive charges made by the taxi-proprie-tors, in the conveyance of teams during the season. The president stated that it would be a good thing if the association could get those interested in the union and who had cars to assist in the conveying of teams this season. The meeting closed with a hearty vote of thanks to the chair.
