MR. A. McNICOL THE VICTIM INTRUDER ESCAPES. Electric Telegraph—Press Association PALMERSTON N., January 4. At an early hour this morning a burglar entered a room in a local hotel occupied by Mr A. McNicol, a visiting bowler from Dannevirke, and succeeded in taking a considerable sum of money. The intruder got away without being interrupted, and has left no evidence as to how he gained admission to the room.
Air McNicol states that he was awakened in the early hours of the morning by someone moving about his room, but thinking it was an hotel employee, did not take much notice of' the matter. When he saw the intruder stealthily cross to the door and disappear, however, he thought it as well to investigate. Immediately the bowler discovered his loss the licensee was aroused, but a search of the building failed to reveal the culprit. The police are investigating the matter.
