WISE MR. BRUCE
THE POWER GF THE PRESS EDUCATE THE PEOPLE. (Received 11.10 a.m.) Electric Telegrapn—Press Association LONDON, December 21. Mr S. Bruce (Commonwealth Prime Minister( made a significant utterance at a farewell gathering at Australia House in connection with the education and stimulation of Imperial opinion, when he said that inter-imperial sentiment must not only be built up from the point at which the last Imperial Conference terminated, but must he kept alive in the interval. This can be compassed by the exchange of right people. Much had been said about interchanging teachers and others. “I 1 suggest that these, with the greatest power to educate public opinion, namely, the press representatives. should be exchanged from Australia with English journalists, and vice versa. That would accomplish much in that manner. We could progressively educate people to ensure the spirit of co-operation.” Lord Burnham said: “The suggestion which Air Bruce indicated has already been made. We have not yet been able to carry it out, but I am persuaded it can he done if we have bis inspiration on the Australian side as well as our own following ou this.”
