WAR PENSION.
FALSE DECLARATION
Electric Telegraph—Press Association GISBORNE, Last Night. Before Mr Levey, S.M., a middleaged man, Thomas Ward, was charged under War Pensions Act with making a false declaration. Evidence was given that defendant, in. applying for a pension, declared his personal belongings were £4O in the Savings Bank. When inquiries were made, it was found he really had £515 deposited.
Defendant said his action was just foolishness. Counsel for the Commissioner of Pensions said he did .not desire to press for a heavy penalty, but the action was brought as a warning.
The Magistrate, after warning defendant of the seriousness of tne charge, ordered him to come up for sentence if called upon within twelve months, and ordered him to pay costs.
